Chinese New Year – This is a Social Studies lesson that opens a unit about Chinese New Year. Inside you will also find many resources for additional lessons and activities for celebrating Chinese New Year in your classroom. Book used: Ms. Frizzle’s Adventures Imperial China by Joanna Cole and Bruce Degan. Pirate Pete- This is a geography lesson that focuses on mapping the classroom and taking the children on a pirate adventure to find the lost treasure. Book used: Pirate Pete by Kim Kennedy. Down Comes the Rain- This is a science lesson focusing on weather. The children will learn about rain and how to measure it. Book used: Down Comes The Rain by Franklyn M. Branley. Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs- This is a science lesson that opens a unit on weather. The class will share the story and then each student will create their own weather journal to be used throughout the month-long unit. Book used: Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs by Judi Barrett Sequencing with Miss Spider- This is an ELA lesson using Miss Spider’s New Car. The class shares the story, sequences using sentence strips and then students have a chance to create their own stories. Book used: Miss Spider’s New Car by David Kirk
